East Melbourne Community Choir sings to a new tune
Richard Lawton has taken up the baton as musical director for the East Melbourne Community Choir.
Richard is a highly experienced educator, corporate trainer, author, theatre director and community choir leader – across three continents. Richard leads the SoulSong Choir; runs a lunchtime choir for barristers in the city and engages in corporate work as a master voice and presentation coach.
Richard is a great believer in choirs creating a safe and welcoming community – and this too is in line with the values of the choir. Richard will be a good fit for the choir and bring fresh energy and a new dynamic approach to the group.
The choir was established in 2023 with the support of a grant from the City of Melbourne and has formed into a friendly, relaxed group of community members who enjoy singing together. The choir sings an eclectic repertoire of music including musicals, pop, folk and classical in two- and three-part harmony as well as rounds and some unison.
New members welcome
The choir is open to experienced singers and beginners; those who read music and those who don’t. Anyone is welcome! Please join us and help bring our community together through the joy of singing.
The choir meets each Tuesday evening (during school term x four terms).
Time: 7pm to 8.30pm each week
Venue: Unitarian Church, 110 Grey St, East Melbourne.
