As Inner City News publishes its final edition before becoming part of The Melburnian, the East Melbourne Group extends its sincere gratitude to editor Sean Car and his dedicated team for their outstanding service to our community.

At a time when genuine local journalism is becoming increasingly rare, Inner City News has stood as a trusted, independent voice for the people of Melbourne’s inner suburbs. It has consistently championed the stories, issues and aspirations of local communities, ensuring that residents, businesses and community organisations have had a platform to be heard.

For the East Melbourne Group, the newspaper has been far more than a source of news. It has been an invaluable partner in helping us engage with our community. Whether reporting on significant planning proposals, heritage protection, transport issues, public open space, or neighbourhood events, Inner City News has enabled us to communicate directly with residents, encourage informed public debate and foster greater community participation.

Many of the issues that shape our neighbourhood are complex and often overlooked by mainstream media. Yet Inner City News has recognised that local stories matter. By giving communities a voice and holding decision-makers to account, it has strengthened our local democracy and helped preserve the unique character and heritage of East Melbourne and the wider inner city.

Their professionalism, integrity and unwavering commitment to independent local journalism have earned the respect and gratitude of countless readers.

While we are naturally saddened to see the final edition of Inner City News, we are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead with The Melburnian.
