Visitors to this year’s Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show were treated to more than just stunning floral and garden displays, thanks to a new partnership between the Melbourne Gin Company (MGC) and the beloved event.

For the first time, MGC brought a bespoke Gin Garden to the show, offering attendees the chance to enjoy handcrafted gin cocktails in a lush botanical setting.

“When we look at the demographic that goes to the Flower Show, we think that they fit pretty well with our people in terms of consumers, so we thought it was a great opportunity to touch base with existing and new customers,” MGC founder, Andrew Marks said.

Guests can enjoy full gin tastings, sip expertly crafted cocktails surrounded by lush botanicals, or take home a limited-edition bottle from the dedicated MGC space – where one of their original stills will also be on display for the show.

As a proud Melbourne-based brand, Mr Marks is thrilled for the gin to reach new customers and devoted fans alike, describing MGC as a spirit “inspired by Melbourne”.

“This was an opportunity that we couldn’t really resist, because it really does align with a lot of what we do,” he said.

“I would say Melbourne is the cultural capital of Australia, so the way we try and tie in with the city is through its culture and we love to be involved in its events.”

Founded in 2012, MGC was at the forefront of Australia’s craft spirits movement.

However, it wasn’t just a “business opportunity”, with Mr Marks describing the venture as a “journey into alchemy”.

“Essentially I started MGC because I love drinking martinis,” he told Inner City News.

“I spent a year experimenting and doing lots of trials that resulted in our dry gin, which is our number one product. It’s basically an all-round gin.”

“There’s eleven botanical that are distilled individually, and in stills that were designed for making perfumes, so they’re really good at preserving the natural goodness of the botanicals.”

The Melbourne Flower and Garden Show runs from March 27 to 31 at Carlton Gardens, with the Gin Garden set to be a must-visit spot for gin lovers and garden enthusiasts alike.

“It’s all about trying to contribute to the fabric of the city’s culture and being a part of it.”
