Man charged after alleged burglaries in East Melbourne

A man has been charged following a series of alleged aggravated burglaries in East Melbourne on the evening of July 23.

Police allege the man broke into four homes in Gipps and Hotham streets at around 5.30pm before making off with various personal items including passports, wallets, and cash.

He was arrested on Hotham St after one of the victims confronted the culprit in their home and walked him out. 

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives interviewed the 31-year-old who was charged with a raft of offences including aggravated burglary, burglary, handle stolen goods, possess drug of dependence and bail related offences.

The stolen property was recovered and returned to the victims, police said.

The Williams Landing man appeared before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on July 24. •
