Man charged after $30K copper theft in East Melbourne

A man has been charged after $30,000 worth of copper was allegedly stolen from a building site in East Melbourne earlier this year.

They fled the scene in an older model Ford ute seen heading Melbourne’s west.

A 59-year-old Sunshine man was arrested in the CBD and has since been charged with theft and other offences by Melbourne Tasking Unit officers.

He will appear at Sunshine Magistrates’ Court on March 14 next year.

“One man is still outstanding, and investigators are keen to speak to anyone with information,” a Victoria Police spokesperson said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at crimestoppersvic.com.au
