Man charged after $30K copper theft in East Melbourne

A man has been charged after $30,000 worth of copper was allegedly stolen from a building site in East Melbourne earlier this year. 

Police allege two men stole two drums of copper at a construction site on Victoria Parade from around 2.15am on July 27.

They fled the scene in an older model Ford ute seen heading Melbourne’s west.

Police executed search warrants at two addresses in Sunshine relating to the theft on September 29.

A 59-year-old Sunshine man was arrested in the CBD and has since been charged with theft and other offences by Melbourne Tasking Unit officers.

He will appear at Sunshine Magistrates’ Court on March 14 next year.

“One man is still outstanding, and investigators are keen to speak to anyone with information,” a Victoria Police spokesperson said.
