Here we go … it’s finally happening at Morrah St!
Last month I talked safety and one of the most important items was the tram stop at Morrah St.
Following discussions with the Department of Transport and Planning there is now a plan drawn up to be implanted in the next couple of months to make the stop safer! To the senior officer involved, many thanks!
A well-structured plan will enable passengers boarding or getting off the 19 tram to feel much safer.
One of the comments in discussion was Royal Parade being a 60kph road made tram use very dangerous.
During one week in February on six different occasions I saw cars flash by when the doors were open. To the tram drivers ringing their bells, many thanks for helping. The issue must frustrate you all and clearly needs fixing.
Submissions for the Royal Park Master Plan closed on February 23. The matter is now with the council to read, analyse and finalise the final plan which will be presented at the Future Melbourne Committee in a few months.
The Parkville Association together with Friends of Royal Park, Royal Park Protection Group and Protectors of Public spaces have been working together to ensure the wonderful natural bush park environment is retained.
Thank you to all that have submitted and thanks to our friends in the Carlton Residents’ Association, North & West Melbourne Association and Parkville Gardens Residents’ Association who have submitted.
Sadly there was not enough coverage in areas such as Merri-Bek which borders the northern end of the park and is used frequently by their residents.
We do understand the need for more sporting ovals in the area but not in a park which currently has plenty.
The groups have shown several councillors around and look forward to all councillors visiting the park during the assessment period. We are so lucky having a natural bushland park so close to the city centre and for those of us that endured COVID lockdowns the park was literally our lifesaver.
This week is “O Week”, and the celebrations will at times be fun and loud! Think of the students arriving fresh at Melbourne University and the c olleges and celebrate with them.
Having lost a couple of important years during lockdown they deserve to enjoy the celebrations of their next stage of education!
At the end of this month the “footy” season begins and there is much activity along Royal Parade.
Remember Carlton played their first few games in Royal Park and are our local team … go Blues in 2025! •
