Disappointed in secretive Flower and Garden Show renewal

As a Carlton resident residing adjacent to Carlton Gardens, it was disappointing to read Sean Car’s article informing us that the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show has been granted a licence extension until 2029 without any community consultation.

I totally concur with Dr Stan Capp’s concerns regarding the lack of transparency. As ratepayers it would be of interest to know just what economic benefit the council receives.

Apart from the inconvenience factors during the set up and duration of the Flower Show such as the gardens being fenced off to locals, parking and huge traffic issues, the damage to the gardens takes months & months to recover. Just when they are at their absolute best in autumn the destruction begins again.

And from what we can see with attendees leaving the show with armfuls of plants, flowers and gardening paraphernalia it would seem to be a huge commercial enterprise rather than an exhibition per se.

Let’s hope the organisations vying for the Show to be relocated can have their say with the council in the future.

Thank you, Inner City News

We have loved being part of the Inner City News community. Many of the residents of the public housing towers have been employed to deliver the paper and many of them are participants in our programs here at CAN Community Support.

We have been an obvious choice as a holding point for newspapers each month for the Carlton area where the delivery people can come and load up to deliver to local letterboxes.

They are passionate and committed to their work getting you this wonderful publication and we love getting to know them better in this way.

Inner City News edition has always been a great read, and we have counted it a privilege to contribute in this way. It holds a special place in our hearts, and we look forward to seeing how it evolves in this new chapter. All the best!
