Carlton traders unite for family-friendly Halloween celebration
Carlton will come alive with ghosts, ghouls, and plenty of sweet treats this Halloween, with local traders joining forces to host a Trick or Treat community event for families and children.
Organised by local traders’ association Carlton Inc., the event will begin at Readings Kids at 315 Lygon St at 4pm before families set off on a special Trick or Treat trail through participating businesses.
Local shops and cafés are preparing to welcome children in costume with treats and surprises, with participants encouraged to bring their own baskets for the hunt.
A range of fun activities – including face painting, balloon makers and roaming entertainers – will provide plenty of fun throughout the afternoon.
Carlton Inc. president Sergio Alderuccio said the event was all about bringing the community together, supporting traders, and creating memorable experiences for families.

The event will culminate at 6pm with a discounted screening of chidlrens’ movie The Nightmare Before Christmas at Cinema Nova, with tickets available for just $9.
“Halloween has become such a big part of the community calendar, and this is a chance for kids to dress up, have fun and explore Carlton in a safe, family-friendly way,” Mr Alderuccio said. “It’s also about encouraging locals to engage with their favourite traders and discover new ones along the way.”
The initiative reflects Carlton Inc.’s ongoing efforts to strengthen connections between local businesses and the community. With each stop along the trick-or-treat trail, families will get to see the precinct’s diverse offerings, from retail and dining to speciality stores.
“Carlton is such a vibrant place, and events like this showcase the area’s unique character. We want to create moments that bring people here, not just to shop or dine, but to share in a sense of celebration and community spirit,” Mr Alderuccio said.
The event is free to attend, with families encouraged to meet at Readings Kids before starting the trail.
“Bring your costumes, bring your kids, and come ready for a spook-tacular day in Carlton,” Mr Alderuccio said. •
