Carlton Corner returns for 2024 Garage Sale Trail

Carlton’s favourite vintage pop-up shop, Carlton Corner, is back this November as part of the national Garage Sale Trail, taking place on the weekends of November 9 and 10, and November 16 and 17.

This year, Carlton Corner is focusing on mid-century furniture and stationery, while also showcasing the talents of local artists.

The Bula family has revamped the space into a vibrant “furniture and office supplies bazaar”, featuring unique items from their own collection alongside treasures passed down from their beloved Nonna.

“We had a lot of interest last year; neighbours ended up bringing their wares to us to sell. We will also be exhibiting local artists on the walls with acrylic paintings and photographs,” Heidi Bula said.

The Garage Sale Trail is Australia’s largest secondhand treasure hunt, with an estimated 10,000 garage sales expected to take place over the two weekends.

“We really want to have as many people as possible come by, and also for the other people participating in the trail,” Heidi told Inner City News.

“I think it’s a really great initiative, getting people to recycle their wares and Marie Kondo their belongings.”

Tucked away in the “multifunctional” space of the Melbourne French Theatre’s (MFT) rehearsal venue, a nearly 50-year-old institution co-founded by Michael Bula, Carlton Corner will be open from 8am until late across both weekends.

MFT is located on the north-western corner of Canning and Neill streets in Carlton. •
