Three Magpies Perched in a Tree returns to La Mama Courthouse
Directed and written by proud Arrindjeri/Wathaurong man Glenn Shea, Three Magpies Perched in a Tree returns this season to La Mama Courthouse from August 14 to 25.
The production explores the idea of whether story and culture can offer spiritual relief by presenting an Indigenous Gothic tale that addresses the harsh realities of front-line juvenile justice work.
The first Indigenous graduate from the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) and inaugural First Nations producer, Mr Shea performs alongside the narration of actor and activist Uncle Jack Charles.
Winning the 2023 Green Word Award for Best New Writing Award as well as receiving the State Library of Victoria R.E. Ross Trust Development Award in 2010, the show serves as an important platform for representing First Nations storytelling.
Three Magpies Perched in a Tree will run from August 14 to 25 at La Mama Courthouse and on September 11 and 12 at David Li Sound Gallery at Monash University’s Clayton Campus. •
