Stay cool at CNLC this summer!

Stay cool at CNLC this summer!

As the temperatures rise, Carlton Neighbourhood Learning Centre (CNLC) is proud to announce that we’ll be a designated Cool Place this summer, thanks to funding from the City of Melbourne’s Community Cool Places Grant.

During a Heat Emergency, declared by the state government when two or more consecutive days of extreme heat are forecast, we’ll extend our hours to provide a welcoming, cool environment for the community.

To help keep Carlton cool this summer, CNLC will extend its hours during Heat Emergencies. On weekdays, the centre will stay open until 7pm, and on weekends, it will welcome visitors from 3pm to 7 pm.

When temperatures soar, visitors can enjoy a range of cooling comforts. Cold water, refreshing ice blocks, and slices of fresh watermelon will be available to help everyone beat the heat.

The air-conditioned space will also feature relaxing activities, such as movies and board games, offering a comfortable environment to unwind and escape the heat.

We’re also offering limited taxi van services for residents of the public housing towers to ensure everyone can access our Cool Place safely. Check our social media for updates on when CNLC will activate these services.

Why is this initiative so important? Heat can pose serious health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups such as young children, older adults, people with pre-existing health conditions, and those with disabilities.

With more frequent and intense heatwaves predicted, having a safe, cool space to retreat to can be lifesaving.

We invite everyone to stay cool, connect with the community, and prioritise your health during Melbourne’s hottest days. Keep an eye on our social media channels for updates on heat emergencies and when CNLC will be open late.

Let’s work together to make this summer safer and more comfortable for all. We look forward to welcoming you at CNLC! •
