East Melbourne philanthropy series draws a crowd
On Tuesday, June 24, a wintry evening did not deter stalwarts from the East Melbourne Group (EMG), nor friends and colleagues, from venturing out as far as the local library on George St.
A warm welcome was given to speakers, including the Peter Mac Foundation’s Craig Connell and Murdoch Children’s Research Institute’s Matthew Hannan, by EMG president Greg Bisinella and series convenor Hazel Westbury.
We all learned so much about the latest breakthroughs in oncology treatment, medical research and pediatric medicine. It was a revelation for many to hear from the experts about initiatives not yet in the public eye.
A topic close to many local hearts – heritage and planning – was led by Greg Bisinella who rounded off the evening on a high note with an account of successes against the odds achieved at VCAT under the direction of the EMG committee.
This second evening in the Philanthropy Series brought together great minds – not only on stage but also in the audience. Representatives of the Bionics Institute and the National Trust were in the audience and are keen to present at a future event.
Watch this space for the next edition of the series on Melbourne’s Arts Precinct.
